So out of my 4 years of being at university, I may have learned a few things...
So here are my 13 tips to keep yourself sane while at a university.
1. DO NOT sign up for any class that starts before 10:00 am if not necessary. I know you're used to waking up at the crack of dawn for high school and you think it will be that same... it is not. Unless you're naturally an early riser, you will hate yourself indefinitely. Trust me...
2. Classes scheduled anytime after 6:00 always suck in general, you will be just wanting to go home the whole time you are there.
3. If you know your major and are going to stick with it for the whole time you're at school do your required courses first! They are typically the most boring ones and you don't want to put them off until your last year. (Your last year is when you have your toughest courses) I, unfortunately, didn't complete all of my required courses because I had switched majors halfway through, so I had to do them and lowkey had a breakdown because it was too much on top of my other courses.
4. If you have the opportunity to create your own schedule, try and give yourself at LEAST one day off. Preferably Monday's or Fridays, for my whole 4 years at Uni I never had a class on a Friday and it was a blessing.
5. The professor makes all the difference, in your interest in the course and in your grades.
6. Don't feel the need you have to dress up for class... You'll be stuck in the classroom for 2-3 hrs per class and you will want to be comfy. Unless the prof instructs you to wear something specific. (typically business students)
7. Tutorials are mandatory for some classes and they suck.
8. Participation marks are easy marks, however, if you're not comfy talking in front of your peers see if there is an online forum to participate in or talk to your prof about it. They will listen to you.
9. Even if you don't want to go to class, go. You're spending all this money to be there you should go. You might hate your life while you are there but it will be worth it... also don't feel the need you HAVE to go to every class, its o if you miss one or two, you will survive.
10. For the love of god DO YOUR READINGS. I'm a very big hypocrite for saying this because I only do them when it comes to exams but it makes the world of a difference if you read them when you are supposed to.
11. Take advantage of the uni/colleges resources. You're paying for them so use them.
12. Making friends seems scary at first but everyone is the exact same position as you so everyone is nervous.
13. If you're in residence there will most likely be drama on your floor... but don't let this discourage you... It is all a learning experience.
