From applying your make foundation with condoms to boiled eggs, there have been some wild trends over the past few months from the online beauty community, and it needs to stop. What happened to the good old days when applying your foundation with your fingers or a good old makeup brush was all we needed? Why must there be a new “trend” every other week?
My train of thought started rolling when I stumbled upon a Buzzfeed article about people applying their foundation with a hard boiled egg…
Really guys? Really? Is this what the online beauty community has sunk to? Sure it is entertainment for half a second but how many beauty bloggers are about to go out and test the news craze?
All the click bait that is happening nowadays, I guess you need something obscure to get the attention of your viewers, which leads me to the next topic I wanted to touch base on… Instagram click bate.
I have found that Instagram click bate has become out of control. You know what I am talking about. A beauty guru posts a video tutorial on IG but makes the cover photo is something obscured, and it just ends up being a plain old makeup tutorial (which is not to say that the tutorials are bad because 99% of the time, they’re amazing)
I’ll give you a few example that I have seen. I have seen people pretending to cut their beauty blenders, putting a lighter next to their makeup, and I even saw a guru put an exact knife next to their eye.
Sure the competition has grown immensely over the past few years, with the growth of YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, however, has this gotten out of control? in my opinion yes… yes, it has.
Trust me I love the online beauty community, it is how I spend the majority of my spare time watching, and maybe I am just being bitter… but honestly, these 5 mins trends and click bate is becoming quite old in my opinion…
