2. Distance Making friends online is quite a taboo subject and is not really seen as normal, seeing as though they are still relatively new and have a negative connotation attached to it.
"Oh, you can't make friends with people you know IRL?"
"There are predators online"
Blah blah blah.
Well, my experience has been pretty great with finding some of my best friends online.
For me my friendships started in my first year at university, stemming from tumbr.com and twitter.com. It all started with our common interest in a certain band... *cough* One Direction *cough.*Laugh all you want but you're lying to yourself if you don't think they put out bops. I digress...
I have made such a strong bond with my online friends, we have talked every day for about 4 years now and I feel as close to them as I do anyone. There are so many advantages to having a friendship online, and for me, my friends that I have met through the internet are some of my closest friendships I've ever had. You really get to know someone if you are up to the commitment.
My friends and I joke that we basically have morphed into the same person, which we essentially have. We have the same music taste, ideologies, values, political views, sense of humour, and interests... You know how when you hang out with someone for a long time you pick up on their slang and isms, well with online friendships it is the same thing.
I h8 how peeps initially judge you for saying you met a friend online, and it is weird to say out loud but that shouldn't stop you from making friends. you just have to be safe about it, ask them to skype/facetime, make sure they aren't being inappropriate. once you get past those initial borders than it seems quite normal.
I can't emphasize enough how important these relationships I've made mean to me. They're just all around gr8 people, and I love them dearly.
xx.
